SAIL boost to education

New Delhi: In a bid to develop society through education, Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), a public sector undertaking under the Ministry of Steel, is supporting a number of schools in the steel townships to provide modern education to thousands of children and is assisting the government schools as well.

SAIL also provides students with Mid-Day meals in association with Akshaya Patra Foundation. Special schools in the name of Kalyan and Mukul Vidyalayas are benefitting BPL category students at Integrated Steel Plant locations with facilities of free education, Mid-Day meals, uniform including shoes, text books, stationary items, school bag, water bottles and transportation in some cases.

Tribal children are getting free education, accommodation, meals and uniforms, textbooks, etc. at Saranda Suvan Chhatravas, Kiriburu; RTC Residential Public School, Manoharpur; Gyanodaya Chhatravas, BSP School Rajhara, Bhilai; Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences, Bhubaneswar; Gyanjyoti Yojana, Bokaro. Students have also been awarded annual scholarships in the plant peripheries.

Bokaro Steel Plant in Jharkhand has provided education and holistic development for the children of Birhor tribe. Birhor children were adopted and provided free education along with boarding, lodging, nourishing and wholesome food, clothing, free medical treatment, sports and cultural opportunities in a conducive atmosphere. For skill development and better employability, matriculate Birhor boys have been sponsored for ITI training in welder trade along with stipend, accommodation and food facility. /BI/
